Dentist in Grandville

Serving Grandville and Grand Rapids

Doesn’t it seem like just last week we were planning June and July trips to visit out-of-town family and friends? Once again, summer has flown by and we’re preparing our families for the 2023-2024 school year. As you’re filling your calendar with class schedules, sports practices, and other extracurricular activities, be sure to not forget about dental routines for the new school year!

Here are our top-five tips for restoring healthy dental routines:

  1. Get a New Toothbrush: How long has your family been using their toothbrushes? If you cannot remember, it’s likely time to replace their brushes. After three months, toothbrushes or toothbrush heads should be replaced.
  2. Set a Routine Bed Time: Throughout summer, it’s easy to let our kids go to bed a little later. However, as days grow shorter, our bodies tell us it’s time to go to bed earlier, Restorative rest will help your kids rejuvenate, adding to a healthier dental routine.
  3. Brush before Going to Bed: Wait! Be sure your kids brush their teeth before they go to bed earlier than they did during summertime!
  4. Floss Regularly: Please don’t ever forget about flossing! Brushing our teeth is one piece of the puzzle, but we also must floss daily, preferably two times per day. Don’t miss out on the oral health benefits of cleaning between our teeth!
  5. Avoid Sugars: Did you let your kids eat an extra snack before going to bed in the summer? There’s no shame – we did too! Now that we’re observing our schoolyear habits, we need to reduce sugar intake before bedtime.
